A post about Canada, NYC, the RBS Main Stage performance, my performance at the Bristol Royal Ballet Big Screen, my RAD class drama and my birthday ‘treat’ in class.
I’ve been learning lots of new rep recently so I thought I’d share what I’ve been up to!
Ivan Vasiliev doing triple cabrioles in slow motion. Awesome!
Here’s a recap of two guest posts I wrote for A Younger Theatre - let me know what you think!
I just can’t get the R&J Balcony scene out of my head! Here’s McRae/Yoshida - I get chills at 4:05 and 6:10 every single time I see it, no matter who the dancers are. MacMillan is a genius.
All about my truly awesome ballet-packed day - a BalletBoyz workshop, Romeo & Juliet with Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg and a Ballet Black performance to round things off!
A new blog post on my realisation that performing doesn’t mean just dancing the steps, that there is a while new layer on top that makes dancing so much more. And it’s damn hard to do!
The music from my variation in Pas des Déesses - I love how beastly it is! Just makes me want to dance…
Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the music, just that it was composed by John Field and arranged by John Wilson.
Things that make me feel like a dancer…
- Coupé jetés en tournant en manége, especially when done to coda music
- Assisted foutté-y pirouettes even though/because the girl does the hard work…
- Grand jetés en tournant landing in a deep lunge with “meaty” back cambré
- Grand pliés in 5th with reverse port de bras to high 5th with a head tilt towards the barre
Pure inspiration - documentary “I Am A Dancer” of Nureyev. Includes him in La Sylphide with Carla Fracci, Marguerite and Armand with Margot Fonteyn and the Sleeping Beauty Grand Pas de Deux with Lynn Seymour. Amazing! (Part 1 of 6)
An amazing night of all-male dance proving that dance can be masculine, current and cool. Awesome.
Start your Saturday with a clip of Baryshnikov in Sleeping Beauty! Poor quality unfortunately but nevertheless still inspiring. A master at work.
The awesome @guillaume__cote in “Lost in Motion”. An amazing short video - I love the slow-mo sections where his legs and arms trace out arcs and there’s some great shots like the top-down pirouettes a la seconde. Inspiring.
